Houston Dominates Longwood in First Round of NCAA Tournament
The 2024 NCAA Tournament got underway on Thursday with 16 first-round games, and one of the most lopsided affairs was the matchup between the Houston Cougars and the Longwood Lancers. Houston, the top-ranked team in the country, made quick work of Longwood, winning by a final score of 86-46.
Houston was led by a balanced scoring attack, with four players finishing in double figures. Jarace Walker led the way with 18 points, followed by Marcus Sasser with 16, Terrance Arceneaux with 15, and J'Wan Roberts with 11. Longwood was paced by JaShaun Smith, who finished with 14 points.
Houston's defense was also impressive, holding Longwood to just 34% shooting from the field. The Cougars forced 15 turnovers and blocked seven shots.
With the win, Houston advances to the second round, where they will face the winner of the game between the Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
